1st Stakeholders Meeting for the Earthquake Contingency Plan for Thimphu (2-6 December 2024), Paro

 The Department of Local Governance & Disaster Management (DLGDM), with funding support from the World Bank, conducted first stakeholders' meeting in Paro on the development of Earthquake Contingency Plan for Thimphu from 2nd to 6th December 2024. The meeting brought together key stakeholders—including government officials, first responders, community leaders, and corporate representatives—to strengthen Bhutan’s disaster preparedness and response capabilities.

Key Highlights:
Participants engaged in theoretical sessions and hands-on exercises within a structured framework divided into four key desks.

  1. Planning Desk: Focused on early warning systems, resource tracking, and financial planning.
  2. Operational Desk: Covered emergency medical services, search and rescue, fire safety, and shelter management.
  3. Logistics Desk: Managed stockpiling, transportation, communication, and donation handling.
  4. Essential Services & Restoration Desk: Planned for rapid recovery of critical services post-earthquake.
