The Department of Local Governance and Disaster Management (DLGDM), in collaboration with the Samdrup Jongkhar Thromde Administration, has successfully concluded the 7th Batch Basic Search and Rescue Training, which took place at the National Search and Rescue Training Centre (NSARTC) in Tashigatshel, Chhukha. This esteemed training program, conducted from April 14 to April 28, 2025, culminated today in a formal closing ceremony, honored by the presence of the Chief Guest, Dasho Dzongdag of Chhukha Dzongkhag.

During the ceremony, the Chief Guest acknowledged the exceptional dedication and commitment displayed by the Royal Bhutan Police (RBP) personnel, Desuup trainees, and their trainers. Over the 14-day program, participants underwent intensive training designed to equip them with essential skills and knowledge critical for effective search and rescue operations in emergencies. Given Bhutan's unique geographical and climatic challenges, the role of these individuals as first responders is of paramount importance. The expertise acquired by the trainees—including essential knot techniques, swift water rescue, emergency operations, and psychological first aid—is vital to our national disaster management strategy. This knowledge empowers them not only to save lives but also to cultivate resilient communities, a fundamental component of our nation’s well-being.

This training signifies not merely an end but the dawn of a new beginning. As the participants embark on their roles with enhanced capabilities, they will play a pivotal role in establishing Search and Rescue teams across every Dzongkhag, Dungkhag, and Thromde. We express our confidence that their collective efforts will significantly strengthen our disaster response framework and enhance preparedness throughout the country.
