Closing ceremony of the 10th Batch Search and Rescue (SAR) Training

The Director General of the Department of Local Governance and Disaster Management (DLGDM) graced the closing ceremony of the 10th Batch Search and Rescue (SAR) Training held at Trashigatshel, Chhukha on 8 June 2026.
The two-week intensive training was jointly coordinated by the Department of Local Governance and Disaster Management (DLGDM) and the National Search and Rescue Training Center (NSRTC). A total of 124 participants from the Royal Bhutan Police (RBP) and DeSuung successfully completed the training.
The SAR training was designed to enhance the operational preparedness and response capabilities of first responders in dealing with emergencies and disasters. Through a combination of theoretical sessions and practical field exercises, participants gained valuable knowledge and skills in search and rescue techniques, emergency response coordination, casualty management, and disaster risk reduction.
In his closing remarks, the Director General highlighted the critical role of trained search and rescue personnel in safeguarding lives and property during emergencies. He emphasized that Bhutan's vulnerability to natural hazards such as earthquakes, floods, landslides, glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs), and fire incidents necessitates a well-trained and coordinated response force capable of acting swiftly and effectively during disasters.
The Director General also commended the dedication and commitment demonstrated by the participants throughout the training and encouraged them to apply the knowledge and skills gained to strengthen disaster preparedness and response efforts in their respective organizations and communities.
The successful completion of the 10th Batch SAR Training marks another significant milestone in Bhutan's ongoing efforts to build a resilient and capable disaster response system through strengthened institutional and human resource capacities.
