Weather Remarks on Rainfall (Date and time of issue: 1 August 2023, 5:00 PM)

Mostly cloudy weather with light rain is expected over the country during the coming days.

Light to moderate rain is expected in the Southern and Eastern parts of the country during the next 3 days (2-4 August), with gusty wind likely over isolated places of the South. The intensity of rainfall is likely to increase from the 4th- 8th of August in the Southern and Eastern parts.

Owing to the rainfall received during the past weeks, and the forecast of continuous rainfall in the coming week, there are possibilities of associated riverine floods, flash floods, localised
landslides/mudslides, roadblocks, and damage to vulnerable structures over the Southern and isolated places of the country.

Salient synoptic features
- The southwest monsoon is active in the region.
- A Well Marked Low-Pressure Area was formed over the Central parts of the North Bay of Bengal, which intensified into a Deep Depression over the Northeast Bay of Bengal today. It is likely to move northwestwards.
