Tabletop Simulation Exercise and Disaster Risk Management Advocacy & Sensitization program (23-26/04/2024)

The 4-day program on a Tabletop simulation exercise and DRM sensitization program has been conducted by the Department of Local Governance & Disaster Management, Ministry of Home Affairs in collaboration with the Dzongkhag Administration, Samdrup Jongkhar with financial support from the World Bank (WB) Project “Strengthening Risk Information for Disaster Resilience in Bhutan”.

The simulation exercise was conducted based on simulated scenario earthquake with epicenter at Kopili, the Indian State of Assam from 23-26 April 2024 at the Dzongkhag Tshodue Hall and updated the Dzongkhag Disaster Management and Contingency Plan (DMCP).
In the opening remarks, the Offtg. Dzongdag, thanked the DLGDM, MoHA for considering Samdrup Jongkhar Dzongkhag to conduct a simulation exercise this financial year. It was informed that the program was timely and stressed the importance of necessary preparation and capacity building in their Dzongkhag. He assured full cooperation and support in this exercise and expressed his expectation and confidence in the team to make the Dzongkhag DMCP more realistic and practical.

The participants of the training programme are the officials from the Dzongkhag, RBP, SJongkhar Thromde, Dungkhags, local government leaders (Gups), Gewog Administrative Officers, representatives from the Desuung Office and Bhutan Red Cross Society, and regional offices like BTL, FCBL.

The training is aimed at enhancing the preparedness and response capabilities of the local government functionaries during the times of disaster.
