The Department of Local Governance and Disaster Management (DLGDM), Ministry of Home Affairs, conducted a two-day Standard First Aid Training for Desuups in Bumthang Dzongkhag from 6-7 April 2026.

A total of 24 Desuups from Bumthang, Gasa, Punakha, Trongsa, Wangdiphodrang, and Zhemgang participated in the training. The programme aimed to enhance first aid knowledge and practical skills, strengthen community-level emergency response capacity, and promote preparedness and resilience.

Organized by the Disaster Preparedness and Response Division (DPRD), DLGDM, the training was facilitated by the Bhutan Red Cross Society (BRCS) using a hands-on, participatory approach that included demonstrations, practical exercises, and simulation-based learning.

A competency assessment was carried out to evaluate participants’ learning outcomes, and certificates were awarded based on the assessment results. All participants met the required standards and received certificates valid for two years.

The training strengthened the capacity and confidence of Desuups to provide immediate assistance during emergencies, contributing to more resilient communities.

DLGDM will continue to conduct similar capacity-building initiatives in collaboration with relevant stakeholders to enhance disaster preparedness across the country.
